An Iraqi parliamentary committee has proposed bringing fuel and petroleum product supplies in the Kurdistan Region under the same federal distribution and pricing system used across other Iraqi provinces, as shortages and long queues continue to impact filling stations nationwide. The proposal aims to standardize fuel management. According to the recommendations, the federal Oil Products Distribution Company would supply Kurdistan's provinces in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government's Ministry of Natural Resources. If supplies prove insufficient, the region's separate daily allocation of 50,000 barrels of crude oil could be canceled and exported through the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO). Additionally, consumer fuel prices in the Kurdistan Region would be aligned with federal rates applied elsewhere in Iraq, with refinery costs reconciled at the end of each year between the federal and regional ministries.
